Congregation at Prayer
Congregation at Prayer is a guide for meditation and prayer for the week.
Each week you will be encouraged to meditate on and commit to memory a Scripture verse, a section of Martin Luther’s Small Catechism, and a hymn of the week as a part of your daily prayer and devotional time. This will encourage us to reflect more deeply on the unchanging truths of God’s Word.
Verse of the Week: John 8:51
“I tell you the truth, if you keep my Word, you will never see death.”
Hymn of the Week: My Song is Love Unknown LSB#430 verse 7
Here might I stay and sing, No story so divine!
Never was love, dear King, Never was grief like Thine.
This is my friend, In whose sweet praise
I all my days Could gladly spend!
The Catechism:
Table of Duties—What Hearers Owe their Pastors
1 Corinthians 9:14
The Lord has commanded that those who preach the gospel should receive this living from the gospel.
Galatians 6:6-7
Anyone who receives instruction in the word must share all good things with his instructor. Do not be deceived: God cannot be mocked. A man reaps what he sows.
1 Timothy 5:17-18
The elders who direct the affairs of the church well are worthy of double honor, especially those whose work is preaching and teaching. For the Scripture, says, “Do not muzzle the ox while it is treading out the grain,” and “the worker deserves his wages.”
The Collect for Judica
We beseech Thee, Almighty God, mercifully to look upon Thy people, that by Thy great goodness they may be governed and preserved evermore both in body and soul; through Jesus Christ, Thy Son, our Lord, who lives and reigns with Thee in the unity of the Holy Ghost, every one God, world without end. Amen.
